Rock Fence Park in Nicholasville hosted a rare happening last Saturday. Once a year, longtime friends Scott Collins, Ron Cox, David Hilen, and Brad Wilson reunite at the park to perform the DSB Reunion Show, performing music mainly from the 70s and 80s.

“You have to understand, this isn’t really like a regular band. We get together once a year and perform,” Cox said.

Though the reunion show has only occurred for the past four years, the connections and relationships within the band span since the 80s.

“Scott and David played together at Lafayette High School when they were teenagers. Then in the early 80s, if I got the timeline right, Brad and Scott played together in a contemporary Christian band called Covenant. It’s really kind of a weird way it all worked,” Cox explained.

Then several years later, Cox found himself in connection with the rest of the band while working at a radio station.

“In 1986, I was working at a gospel radio station in Paris, Kentucky. Brad also worked at the radio station. I was wanting to put together a Bluegrass gospel group, and he said, ‘You need to call Scott Collins,’ and that’s how I met Scott,’” he said.

Through their time with the DSB Reunion Show, Rock Fence Park has been the only venue they have ever performed and reunited at.

“This is the only place we have held it, and we’ve been doing it for the past four years,” Cox said.

When asked about performing at Rock Fence Park, Cox praised the new stage, saying it is a “wonderful place, a great place to play music. And they’ve made such new improvements. This new stage is just phenomenal…This is all really really not one of the nicest sages I’ve ever worked on, honestly.”

Like the reunion show, Cox noted how he enjoys how the concert brings people together and connects.

“I really enjoy seeing everyone out here, especially after COVID where we couldn’t perform. It’s nice to see all of these people. This is probably our biggest crowd yet, which is exciting.”
