The Jessamine County Fiscal Court has contracted with Large Animal Composting of KY (LACKY) in Casey County to handle the removal of dead livestock in Jessamine County. Service with LACKY begins Sept. 1.
The removal of dead livestock is a free service offered to Jessamine County livestock owners and producers to ensure the proper disposal of dead animals to protect water quality and community health.
Brent Woodrum, owner of LACKY, said he wants Jessamine County livestock owners and producers to call or text as soon as possible for pickup of dead livestock.
“Text or call anytime of the day or night,” Woodrum said. “I would prefer to know sooner than later.”
When requesting pickup, leave your name, phone number and the address of the location of the animal.
The company can be contacted by calling or texting Brent Woodrum at 859-397-1078 or Bart Woodrum at 859-583-7761. The website is lackydeadanimal.com, and the company is located at 235 Griffin Ridge Road in Liberty.
The free service includes horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, goats and any other type of agricultural animal.
The owner or producer should place the animal in an easily accessible area that is on a solid surface, such as a blacktop or gravel road near the front of the property.
LACKY will not open gates or pickup in an area that contains live animals.
The service is not offered free to commercial facilities like veterinary clinics, stockyards or fairgrounds. These facilities can arrange pickup for a fee.
