East Jessamine High School baseball coach Erinn Thompson continues his battle with the COVID-19 virus. Meanwhile, students and faculty alike held a vigil on Dec. 23 to pray for the instructor’s recovery and release.
“Life has thrown Coach Thompson a curveball and he is currently struggling with complications due to Covid,” the school stated in a post on Facebook. “As best as we can, we’ve been keeping up-to-date with the Thompson family and our head baseball coach, Erinn Thompson. Ben, Cam, Andrew, and Niko are such an integral part of the Jaguar family, as well as their father, Erinn.”
Friends, family and students gathered at East High Baseball Field for the vigil at 6 p.m. that cold night. Additionally, players and faculty from West Jessamine were in attendance supporting their East Jessamine rivals.
Chris Hawboldt, the principal of East Jessamine High School, told LEX18: “We’re rivals when we’re on the field of play, but ultimately we’re all one community and we all work together.”
Thompson’s family can be supported on the Meal Train website at https://mealtrain.com/vz0vqy. Thompson remains at UK Hospital. He is in his late 40s.
