East Brannon Road extension complete
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced last Friday the East Brannon Road extension is now open and ready for motorists.
The project is located from east of Lauderdale Drive in Jessamine County to Tates Creek Road in Fayette County.
The project also includes a new 2.2 miles in length two-lane road which includes bicycle lanes.
“The purpose of this project is to provide safer connectivity between East Brannon Road and the Brannon Crossing development in Jessamine County and Tates Creek Road in Fayette County,” KYTC District 7 Design Section Supervisor Joshua Samples said.
The project was let to construction in November of 2015, but due to a right-of-way delay, Samples said the construction for the new East Brannon Road extension did not get under way until the spring of 2017. The project was state funded and took two construction seasons for completion, Samples said.
The project was funded from the state road fund (FD04). The total project cost for design, right-of-way, utilities and construction was $18.5 million with the construction cost by itself approximately $13 million.
“It was designed as an ultimate four lane typical with an initial construction of a two-lane typical section,” Samples said. “The construction of two-lanes now and four-lanes being needed later is based on the traffic projections. The chosen typical is similar to the rest of Brannon Crossing.”
