Time to search for ‘Unsung Heroes’

Help us find Jessamine County’s “Unsung Heroes.”
That will be a focus as we begin work on our 2019 Progress edition that will be the single largest, best and most-read publication the newspaper produces all year. It will be a four-month process culminating when it publishes Feb. 28.
What falls under this year’s theme of “Heroes & Heritage?” Well, it will be the people, organizations, businesses and history that truly makes our community shine. In some cases it will mean we have to find the hidden gems, and that’s where you can help.
Who do you consider the “Unsung Heroes” of Jessamine County?
Maybe it’s the elementary school teacher who has spent decades educating our youth.
Or perhaps it’s the business that goes above and beyond to make charitable contributions within the community.
Maybe it is the public servant who spends as much time off the job making a difference as he or she does on it.
Perhaps it’s the charitable organization that makes a lot of impact out of minimal dollars.
We want your input.
This feature allows readers to tell us — in their own words — who they think makes an impact here in the community. We will feature as many of these as possible as a celebration of the individuals who make our community special, often without ever seeking recognition.
Our goal is to make Progress 2019 the single best publication supplement The Journal has produced in more than 140 years. But we cannot do it without our community.
Reader ideas and advertiser support will be critical components to make this the success we know it can be.
Each and every business here is a part of our heritage and this publication offers a great platform for targeted advertising to show why their business stands out, to recognize the employees who make the business go or simply to celebrate everything they do.
Again, we need your help. Help us make sure these individuals don’t stay “unsung” any longer.
