Nicholasville under a Boil Water Advisory

The City of Nicholasville is currently under a Boil Water Advisory until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The advisory, issued by Utilities Director Bob Amato, went into effect at 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 20.
The advisory is for consumers located north of Edgewood Drive, west of Shun Pike, the Squires Lake Area, Meadowlark subdivision area, Rainbow Drive, the Orchard subdivision and all customers west outside of the Nicholasville Bypass.
The advisory is necessary due to a break in the 20-inch main that Amato said is the backbone of the system. The cause of the break is unknown, and it is now isolated and being repaired according to an urgent press release from Jessamine County Emergency Management.
“We lost pressure on our water system in parts of our town,” Amato said.
Anytime pressure is lost in the water pipes it allows for the possibility of contaminants and bacteria to get into the water, he said.
As a precautionary measure, the advisory recommends that water is boiled as a for three minutes before it is used for drinking or cooking.
Amato is available for questions at City Hall 859-885-1121.
