Softball teams hold steady
Both East Jessamine and West Jessamine softball teams got closer to the .500 marks with wins last week.
The Jaguars came back after a brief time away to get a road win at Estill County, 5-1. They improved to 7-9 with the win.
The Colts paired wins over Bryan Station and Burgin with losses to Lincoln County and Pulaski County to stay steady at 11-13.
WEST 8, BRYAN STATION 6 — The Colts rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the win.
Addie White led West at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs. Olivia Bryant went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Heather Laird and Sarah Coffey both had two hits. The Colts had 13 hits.
White also got the complete game win, giving up six earned runs and nine hits with three walks. She struck out three batters.
LINCOLN COUNTY 12, WEST 0 — The Patriots jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, and Lincoln starter Sidney Slone held the Colts to one hit.
Haileigh Hamilton had the Colts only hit, a two-out single in the fifth inning.
Brooke Childers was the starting pitcher, giving up 12 runs (five earned) in 3 1/3 innings. She allowed 12 hits and two walks while striking out two.
Addie White didn’t give up a hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief. She struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
WEST 20, BURGIN 3 — Sarah Coffey and Ally Barnhardt each went 3-for-3 with three RBI as the Colts rolled to the three-inning mercy rule win.
Barnhardt and Addie White each scored three times, and Samantha Baker, Olivia Bryant and Brandi Hill each scored twice.
Baker and Bryant both had two hits as the Colts recorded 15 hits.
The Colts stole nine bases, with Barnhardt (three) and Abby Robinson (two) stealing multiple times.
Baker also got the win in the circle, allowed one earned run two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
PULASKI COUNTY 10, WEST 0 — The Maroons scored six runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to take the victory.
Brooke Childers, Sarah Coffey, Ally Barnhardt and Heather Laird had hits for the Colts.
Addie White took the loss in 5 1/3 innings. She gave up seven earned runs on 12 hits and two walks.
