Wilmore passes golf cart ordinance: A proposed ordinance that would allow Wilmore residents to drive golf carts on Wilmore streets passed its first reading 5-1 through the Wilmore City Council. 

Planners OK Barkley Woods development: The Jessamine County-Wilmore Joint Planning Commission voted 4-3 to approve development of Barkley Woods Unit 7.

Calling all kids: Local nonprofit Kids Gone Green hosted a casting call for three children to join Nicholasville resident Savannah Storm to film a pilot show for Time Warner Cable, which would air on local access Channel 5.

Jessamine woman spins true yarn: Nan Riekert had a spinning wheel she used to create things out of wool from her own sheep. 

Jeffries Chiropractic opens in Nicholasville: Jeffries Chiropractic opened in April at 994 N. Main Street.

King of the butterflies: The Monarch team at East Jessamine Middle School studied the migration of the Monarch butterfly from Canada to Mexico.

Jessamine County Fair breaks all records; 15,000 visit over seven days: The Jessamine County Fair broke all previous records, with Saturday night featuring the largest crowd to ever attend.

City Limits Assembly Center, offers teens recreation site on Courchelle: The “City Limits Assembly Center” featured teenagers only on Friday and Saturday nights as a way to give teens more to do in the community.

Government denies flood aid so disabled man rebuilds own house: The family of Arville “Woody” Sparks almost drowned during a Kentucky River flood in December, and Woody got little government aid, so he began the process of rebuilding his home. 

Salvation Army Camp enjoyed by Jessamine Co. children: Eight Jessamine County children spent a week at the Salvation Army’s Camp Swoneky, northeast of Cincinnati on I-71. 

JCHS football gear to be issued August 1 in gym: Candidates for the football team at Jessamine County High School were asked to report for issuance of equipment.

50 years ago: July 24, 1969

School budget tops $1.7 million; bids let; teachers, bus drivers hired: There was an adoption of a record high budget for the 1969-1970 fiscal year during a session of the Jessamine County Board of Education. 

Three trailer subdivisions plan expansion, facilities on Ash Grove: Three expansive trailer subdivisions were developing on the Ash Grove Pike.

Nicholasville City park to offer recreational, eating facilities: A three-acre city park with cooking and recreational facilities was under development by the Green Thumb organization in Nicholasville.
