Nicholasville fireworks coming Saturday

There will be fireworks over Nicholasville after all this year.

R.J. Corman Railroad Group announced this week it would host the annual July 4 event.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic, though, necessitated some changes to the program.

According to a company statement, the launch site will be closer to downtown and the intersection with highways 27 and 29. This year’s fireworks are designed to fly higher to more visible outside the Corman property.

The property itself, though, will be closed to the public  to view the fireworks.

The company has been working closely with leadership at the Jessamine County Health Department and the Nicholasville Police Department to develop that safest plan for the show this year,” the statement read. “With their guidance, the company has decided it is best to encourage people to view the fireworks from the safety of their neighborhoods.”

Those who can’t see the fireworks from home should find an appropriate parking spot and watch from their vehicles, as well as maintain social distancing and wearing masks.

“We hope the fireworks display will inspire people with a sense of hope and unity as we celebrate Independence Day together,” R.J. Corman Railroad Group President and CEO Ed Quinn said. “Nicholasville is our home, and this community is very dear to us as a company. I’m glad our company headquarters can provide a staging area so that everyone can enjoy the festivities safely.”

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.
