Autumn is ushering in a number of fun–for-all-ages art activities in Jessamine County.
For starters, our ever popular Junior Creative Art League (JCAL) Sunday art program begins its tenth session on Sept. 10, 2017.
These classes, designed for young artists 6-11, are held each Sunday afternoon at the Polvino Family Art Center, located at 109 S. Main in Nicholasville.
Taught by Hope Soch and Staci Goggins, two of Jessamine County’s certified art teachers, the classes culminate in an exhibit for family and friends of the work created during the session.
There are still a few openings available. The fee for this semester-long course is $150, which includes all art supplies. You can register online at www.CalJessamine.com.
Thursday, Sept.21 will be a great time for families to come to downtown Nicholasville. It is the first of our fall Community Art Nights.
Beginning at 6 p.m., this art evening features dinner and a painting project. Taught by Hope Soch, this is a great event and a fun night out for the entire family. It is suitable for all ages and all skill levels. The cost is $15 per person that includes dinner and all art supplies. You can register online at www.CalJessamine.com or email us at CalJessamine@gmail.com.
Our ever-popular KCAL Old Time Radio Shows will have its Halloween performance on Friday, Sept. 29 (7:30 p.m.), Saturday, Sept. 30 (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct. 1 (2:30 p.m.). Join David Damron, Norm and Denise Cline, Doug Fain and Carolyn Threlkeld as they perform three separate episodes from the Golden Age of Radio. This “Fright Night” performance will include an episode from the “Suspense” series, one from “The Strange Doctor Weird” series, and the Edgar Allen Poe story, “The Tell Tale Heart.”
The rear gallery of the Polvino Family Art Center is transformed into an old-time radio broadcasting studio, where the audience participates by applauding, laughing and booing on cue.
These performances will transport you back to the time when families gathered around the radio to listen to their favorite broadcasts. Ticket cost is $7.50. Tickets are selling quickly, but are still available by calling 859-885-5363 or registering online at CalJessamine.com.
Get your running/walking shoes out and help support the programming of the Creative Art League by participating in the 2nd Annual Race for the Arts. This event is a 5k race (or one mile fun walk) through downtown Nicholasville.
Each participant will receive a Race for the Arts t-shirt. The first 200 participants will receive a signed and numbered limited edition print of a race-themed painting commissioned especially for this event. The race begins at 6:00 p.m. and will end with food, music, door prizes and awards.
