The Jessamine County School Board voted to cancel school for Monday, August 21, for the solar eclipse, which will occur between approximately 1 p.m. t0 4 p.m.
At a specially-called meeting on Monday, the board unanimously voted to cancel school to protect the safety and well-being of students.
Superintendent Matt Moore presented six different options to the board including, having a normal school day, early release, extend the day until 4 p.m., use a Non-traditional Instructional Day, cancel school with no plans to make up the day and have a teacher work day or cancel school with plans to use a makeup day.
Moore recommended the board choose to cancel school with no plans to make up the day. Teachers will be encouraged to form a lesson plan revolving around the eclipse and information will be sent out to parents and guardians regarding safety procedures during the highly anticipated event.
