Amidst the house bill halting Jessamine County Schools redistricting and Superintendent Kathy Fields announcing her retirement, many other items were approved at the school board meeting on Monday, Feb. 27.
A one-year contract between the Jessamine County School district and HealthPoint Family Care Clinic was approved. This contract will establish a healthcare clinic at Brookside Elementary, Jessamine Early Learning Village, Red Oak Elementary and Nicholasville Elementary. These clinics will be available for students and staff alike from all schools in the district.
Some of the budget implications include the purchasing of refrigerators, freezers and scales. This contract would be for the 2017-2018 school year.
The first reading of a revision to the district accounts policy 04.311 that will allow the district to accept receipts and make payments electronically was approved.
The first reading of another revision to a policy that would adjust the assignment of weighted grades for some course offerings at the secondary level was also approved. The revision would allow for an additional weighted option for 100 and 200 college level courses and accelerated courses to provide the highest weighting for 300 and 400 college level courses. The change will recognize student performance that better aligns with expectations of higher level courses and encourage students to enroll. Previously, the policy only allowed the extra weighted grading for advanced placement and dual credit classes. The change adds honors courses onto that. The revision also changes some language in order to make the policy more clear.
The board also approved the staffing allocation guidelines for the 2017-2018 school year.
The last day of school will be Friday, May 19, the same day of graduation. Graduation for East Jessamine High School will start at 4 p.m. at Southland Christian Church. West Jessamine High will occur at the same location following East.
Providence graduation will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 22 at the Wilmore Free Methodist Chruch. A reception will follow at the school.
Due to the graduation, the school board meeting scheduled for May 22 will be moved to Monday, May 15. The work session for Monday, May 8 has been canceled.
