This past week, Amcor celebrated its 50th year in Nicholasville.

Amcor is a plastic manufacturing company that specializes in packaging for food, beverages, medical products, and many other items. The Nicholasville plant makes plastic bottles for some of the biggest alcohol producers, such as Jim Beam, Malibu Rum, and Titos.

On Wednesday, July 3rd, the company hosted a celebration to mark 50 years in the community. Employees and their families, as well as community members and leaders, were invited.

The event had a wide array of activities for attendees to participate in. These activities included inflatables, games, a corn hole tournament, a basketball shot contest, and lots of food.

The celebration featured a petting zoo with puppies from the Jessamine Humane Society and pony rides. Finally, the company gave plant tours to anyone interested in seeing how the plastic is manufactured.

As a company, Amcor stated it is committed to taking care of its employees. According to Rebecca Rothwell, the Human Resources Manager and coordinator of the 50th anniversary celebration, Amcor is a large employer for residents of Jessamine County. Rothwell believes that this commitment to service and safety is why the branch has succeeded. She was extremely proud of the event and the company, saying “I’m glad that Amcor is here, and that we can do this for our employees. We employ 225 locals, and we take good care of our employees. I think that’s why we’ve been here for so long.”

Another core part of Amcor’s mission is being involved in and serving the community. According to Rothwell, Amcor was celebrating “Being here for 50 years and being in support of the community. As long as we’re helping the community, we’re happy.”

The event drew a large crowd, full of employees and their families.
