Wawa is a privately owned chain of over 1,040 convenience stores, and on Wednesday, June 5, officials held a groundbreaking in Nicholasville and Louisville. Wawa offers all the same products you’d find at your typical gas station, with the addition of freshly-made coffee drinks, smoothies, subs, and other hot dishes. At the groundbreaking, attendees enjoyed packaged snacks, drinks, and a serving of one of Wawa’s smoothies.

Wawa VP & Chief Real Estate Officer, John Poplawski, and Director of Store Operations, Joe Collins, came to represent Wawa. Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman was also in attendance. Dozens of Wawa fans were in the crowd, along with Ronda May, Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Charla Reed, Director of Visit Jessamine, and Chamber member Ruby Mason.

God’s Pantry Food Bank was awarded a $10,000 check from Wawa officials to show its plan to support local non-profit partners.

Local officials like Judge-Executive David West and Nicholasville Mayor Alex Carter also attended, giving their own speeches celebrating the convenience store’s groundbreaking.

The store will be located off of Vince Road at 3012 Lexington Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356, across the street from the locally owned Double Kwik.

The Nicholasville and Louisville Wawa locations are expected to open by the third quarter of 2025.
