June has arrived, and other than being the start of pride month, it also marks the beginning of the free-of-charge concert season.
Every year, there are multiple concert series going on throughout the county in Wilmore, Nicholasville, and the greater Jessamine County area. This year will be no different.
Each series organizer works together so no show overlaps.
Stonebridge & Gospel on the Green Wilmore shows
Wilmore holds two different concert series: Gospel on the Green on Fridays and Stonebridge on Saturdays. All concerts will be held on the Wilmore Downtown Green and will start at 6 p.m., a change from last year’s 7 p.m. start time.
Stonebridge organizer and Wilmore Community Development Board Director said the start time was changed in an effort to get more people to come and stay.
“We just felt like maybe we were losing the crowd who wanted to get home especially if they are older or have children. People may not want to stay till nine o’clock in case they have church the next day so we just moved it up,” Woolums said.
The Stonebridge Concert series was started 17 years ago. Three or four years after that, Jody Brock, now the organizer of the Gospel on the Green series, asked Judy, “Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a gospel night too?” Judy agreed and ever since, Brock has been organizing the Gospel series.
Chairs are provided, but Jody recommends bringing your own chair if you’d like something a bit more comfortable. Food trucks and food from local restaurants will be available for purchase. Admission is free, but non-perishable food donations and pet food are requested. The food is donated to the Wilmore Community Service Center and the pet food is donated to the Jessamine Humane Society.
