Library rings in new year with action-packed month

To bring in the new year, the Jessamine County Public Library has packed the month of January with events for all ages with free community fun.

Some of the events require registration and some are open for walk-ins. Events at the library are divided by age group, including children, tweens, teens and adults, adults and all ages.

Children’s events are for children of any age up the fifth grade, excluding sixth graders. A caregiver must accompany children under 11 years old. These events include:

• Mother Goose Story Time every Monday of January from 10:30 to 11 a.m and again from 11:30 a.m.  to 12 p.m.

• Friends and Feelings Storytime every Tuesday of January from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

• Family Storytime every Tuesday of January from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

• Preschool Storytime every Wednesday of January from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

• Lego Club from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Requires registration)

• Jump and Jive activity on Friday, Jan. 12, 19 and 26 from 10:30. to 11 a.m.

• Art for Kids: Seurat Snowman on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Animal Academy: Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

• Pokemon Club on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10:30  to 11:30 a.m.

• Family Storytime (Bilingual English and Spanish) on Tuesday, Jan. 30 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

There is one event for tweens from fourth grade to seventh grade.

• inbe-TWEEN pizza and game night on Monday, Jan. 22 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

Events for teens:

• Gaming tournament for teens on Monday, Jan. 8 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

• Pizza Party and Uno Night for Teens on Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Pokemon Trading Card Event for Teens on Thursday, Jan. 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

• Light up constellations for Teens on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Photography Essentials for Teens on Tuesday, January from 5:30 to 7 p.m. (Requires Registration).

• Anime Night for Teens on Tuesday, Jan. 30 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Events for teens and adults, many of which are workshops to use the various tools and equipment offered by the library. Registration is required for each event in this section:

• Bandlab and Cakewalk (audio recording and editing basics) on Friday, Jan. 5 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

• Intro to the recording studio on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Banner Basics on Sunday, Jan. 7 from 3 to 3:30 p.m.

• CS Small Group: Jewelry Studio from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan.  9 and 16.

• CS Small Group: 3D Printers on Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

• Books and Bites Book Club on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. (No registration needed).

• Intro to the recording studio on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from  6 to 7:30 p.m.

• CS Small Group: Laser Cutters on Wednesday, January 18 from 1:30 to 3 p.m, 4 to 5:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Events for adults:

• Team Puzzle Contest on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

• CS Small-Group: Laser Cutters lesson on Monday, Jan. 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Cozy Knitting on Monday, Jan. 8 from 3 to 4 p.m. (Requires registration)

• Silver Sneakers (exercise class) every Tuesday of January from 2:15 to 3 p.m. (Requires registration).

• REFIT exercise class every Thursday in January from 10 to 11 a.m.

• Budgeting Basics on Thursday, Jan. 11 from 12 to 1 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Camp Nelson and the Civil War on Thursday, Jan. 11 from 5 to 6 p.m.

• Zumba every Thursday of January from 7 to 7:45 p.m.

• Crafternoon: Remember-lutions on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 2 to 3 p.m.

• Dungeons and Dragons on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 6 to 8:15 p.m. (Requires registration).

• Board Game Afternoon on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.

• Meet the Artist: Laura Szekely on Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 5 to 6 p.m.

• Diamond Painting on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. (Requires registration).
