East Jessamine High School is mourning the loss of 14-year-old Jacoby Pittman.

According to his obituary, Pittman passed away at his home on Friday, Oct. 7.

A member of the Jaguars football and basketball team, Pittman’s passing caused the abrupt cancellation of East Jessamine’s football game against Collins High School last Friday.

Jessamine County Schools Superintendent Matt Moore said this in a written statement.

“It is always particularly tragic when a young person’s life ends too soon, and our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Jacoby Pittman at this very difficult time. Our focus is on supporting Jacoby’s loved ones while we ensure that our students receive whatever assistance they may need. A team of JCS counselors will be available to meet with students individually and in small groups for as long as necessary,” Moore said in the statement. “We also stand ready to provide resources for our student families as parents support their student’s individual needs and help them to work through their emotions related to this loss or any challenge that they may be experiencing. As always, our district family has come together to comfort and care for one another, and we wish strength and healing for our East Jessamine High School community and all of those affected by this terrible loss.”

Visitation for Pittman will be at Southland Christian Church’s Harrodsburg Road campus and is scheduled for Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon. Funeral services will follow at the same location on Saturday at noon.

According to the obituary, Pittman is survived by his parents, Chris and Lora, and sisters, Alana and Bella.
