Jessamine County residents have regained an entry point for the Kentucky River.

As of Friday, July 1, the High Bridge boat ramp has been reopened to the public according to a statement posted on the Jessamine County, Kentucky Facebook page.

Located in a region known as “the Palisades” the boat ramp is in the midst of what is considered some of the best scenery on the river.

Jessamine County Judge-Executive David West and the Jessamine County Fiscal Court worked with the Kentucky River Authority to repair and reopen the ramp.

The boat ramp had previously been closed due to planning and zoning issues, and after the issues were resolved the owner decided not to reopen the boat ramp. Negotiations were made with the owner and the Kentucky River Authority and the KRA provided Jessamine County with the money to lease from the property owner.

Frank Daugherty, the owner of the property, and the river authority worked together to clean up the area around the boat ramp.

The ramp will be open through the rest of the year.

“We just want to caution everyone to not get too close to the dam because that can cause accidents. You can get swept up in that current and to use all caution. If you go to the boat ramp facing the river and turn left, you should be in great shape.” Judge-Executive David West said.

The Kentucky River Authority has had signs in the past, and there will be buoys warning of the dangers.

“We just want everybody to have a great experience enjoying the Kentucky River.”
