Letter from the Editor | Preparing for the holiday deadlines
Published 3:10 pm Tuesday, November 15, 2016
My entire week usually boils down to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
At that specific time, all the reporting, writing and editing throughout the week comes together to be designed and published. Though Wednesday is the due date, all day Tuesday is when most of the work happens.
During college, I had several different deadlines for different classes, a test here, homework there and a final creeping around the corner. One of the biggest lessons I learned during that time was how to juggle tasks while racing toward a due date.
I understand that not everyone’s day to day activities revolve around a specific time, and I wouldn’t ask someone to make their world revolve around my deadline. However, I would like to inform our readers of our deadlines and why they are in place.
Each deadline has a purpose to make the workflow at the Journal go more smoothly.
The reason why community calendar items and letters to the editor are due on Friday at 5 p.m. is to give us time to put them were they need to go and proofread them. The reason why the pictures for the Thank You, Veterans page were due when they were, was to give us time to get the page laid out.
I do appreciate all of those in the community who do get their information to me in a timely manner. It makes my week go much smoother. I greatly encourage people in the community to write to us about their opinions or community events, just please make sure it is in before our deadline.
The holiday season continues with Thanksgiving next week, and for that week our deadline will change from 1 p.m. on Wednesday to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The letters to the editor and the community calendar deadlines will remain the same. However, for our readers who have a potential story idea for next week, it would be best to get those to us before this Friday. The paper will come out on Wednesday, Nov. 23 instead of Thursday.
