The Leadership Jessamine County program installed an art mural project in the Nicholasville downtown Performance Park on Monday.
Mitchell Pearson, executive director of the Nicholasville, Wilmore Jessamine County Tourism Commission, said he is excited by the project because downtown areas often feature art, so he’s glad art has come to downtown Nicholasville. He said the art is hoped to be a permanent exhibit, and the art is weather-treated.
Children from Jessamine County Schools made the murals for the art display, and the art was meant to be representative of Kentucky and Jessamine County.
Miles Johnson, an art teacher at Warner Elementary School, said children from his school made a mural with patterned horses painted on it, and it was a fun project for them.
“To reach out in the community was awesome,” he said.
The art reveal event featured live music by Kevin Holm-Hudson, who is a music theory professor at the University of Kentucky, as well as short speeches by Nicholasville Mayor Pete Sutherland and Miss Kentucky, Alex Francke, a Lexington native.
Sutherland said he hopes that in the future, there will be more music performances and other events in the Performance Park.
