THURSDAY
—Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks and Recreation is opening the Coolidge Building for walkers and public exercise from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Coolidge Building is at 499 E. Maple St. For more information, visit njcpr.org or call (859) 885-9787.
—A women’s Bible study will meet Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army on 205 South 1st St. during the fall. All women are invited. The group will be reading and studying scriptures related to the life of the disciples of Jesus. The book, “Twelve Ordinary Men” by John MacArthur will be used as a supplement to the teaching. They will discuss a different disciple each week with an overview given Sept. 1. Bring your Bibles and learn together. No childcare is available. —The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts a creative-writing class with Carolyn Barnum every Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. — Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a Bible study (First John) with new Wilmore UMC Pastor D. Merricks, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.
—Wilmore TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss support group meets Thursdays in the community room at Jessamine Village, at the end of South Maple Street in Wilmore. New members are welcome. Contact Eva Jacobs at (859) 858-3456.
—Walking With Love Food Pantry at 220 Edgewood Drive is open from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday.
—In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Salvation Army will be collecting new or gently used bras for the homeless women in The Salvation Army’s homeless shelter and for women-in-need within the Lexington community. The bra drive will continue throughout the month of October. Please bring all donated bras to The Bra Drive Bin located in The Salvation Army Administration Building. We are looking for both regular bras and sports bras for all sizes and body types; from pre-teen to plus size adult.
FRIDAY
—The Jessamine County Fire Department will have a sign up for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for those who need them. The sign up will be from, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, Monday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 25.
—Jessamine County Public Library will host Jump and Jive from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21
—Jessamine County Public Library will host Sprout: The Cat’s Meow from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Loren and Lee Present… beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Friday Oct. 21.
—The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Cafe` Cabaret with The Woodall Sisters beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Friday Oct. 14 the event is free and open to the public.
—The Wilmore Senior Community Center hosts Flex Exercise with Aureol Moore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m.
SATURDAY
—Jessamine County Public Library will host Intro to the JCPL Creative Space from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

—The Jessamine County Democratic Party has called a special meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 in the Jessamine County Democratic Headquarters located at 219 North Main Street in Nicholasville. Everyone is welcome. For more information, please call 859-858-4406.
—Jessamine County Public Library will host Mothergoose Storytime from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24.
—Jessamine County Public Library will host Homeschool Hang Out from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24.
—The joint meetings of the Jessamine County Democratic Executive Committee and the Jessamine County Democratic Woman’s Club are hosted the second Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the fiscal courtroom of the Jessamine County Court House. —The Salvation Army, Jessamine County Service Center, is taking applications for holiday assistance from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday this week and next week. The applications include Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner as well as the Angel Tree Program for children. Applications can be found at 205 South First Street in Nicholasville. TUESDAY
— Marshall Green of Summerville, Georgia will be coming to Jessamine County to tell his story of the tragic loss of his two children to distracted driving in January 2013. There will also be a demonstration of the dangers of distracted driving put on by various Jessamine County services and businesses. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at West Jessamine High School, the demonstration will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at East Jessamine High School.

— The Youth Leadership Jessamine County program will host a benefit concert to raise funds and awareness for the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 27 at the Akers Auditorium at Asbury University. It will feature Dr. Scott Wright (clarinet professor, University of Kentucky), Jerram John (piano, cello), Stephen Wright (violin), and Garrison Wright (clarinet). There will be no charge for admission, but a free-will offering will be taken.
— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Asbury University Masterworks Series beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 27.
— The Jessamine County Girl Scouts will host a Trunk or Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 in the Nicholasville Christian Church Parking Lot. The event is open to the public and will have hot dogs, chili, trick or treating and a trunk decorating contest. Monetary donations will be accepted for food.
— Through colorfully wrapped, gift-filled shoeboxes, children in need in more than 100 countries can experience hope this year. Simply pack a shoebox with toys, hygiene items, school supplies and notes of encouragement, and you can make a tangible difference in the life of a child overseas. — Asbury will host a play of 12 Angry Jurors. The play will run on Nov. 10, Nov. 12, and Nov. 17-19 in the Greathouse Theatre at Asbury.
