A new Kiwanis Club was initiated in 2018 in Jessamine County to give community members the opportunity to help local children.

The Kiwanis Club of Jessamine County meets at noon the first Tuesday of the month, and at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month, at Central Bank located at 301 N. Main St.

Late last month, the club held their charter/gala night at Wesley Village in Wilmore.

The night began with dinner, guest speakers Tom Leach “The Voice of the Wildcats,” Jessamine County School Supt. Matt Moore, and Dale Hawkins, Kiwanis Kentucky/Tennessee district governor.

To close the evening, a silent auction took place with proceeds given to help students at The Providence School. 

“Kiwanis clubs provide a great opportunity to meet new friends who believe in serving their communities, networking with business professionals and making a significant impact on the community through volunteering,” Daniel VanHorn, president of Kiwanis of Jessamine County said. “Kids need Kiwanis, in our community and in communities around the world, so they can grow up in a world where they are happy, healthy, safe and loved.”

VanHorn said the new Kiwanis Club of Jessamine County will focus on service projects addressing several community needs.

“We understand the changing needs of today’s busy volunteers, and encourage members to give time when they can, whether that’s at a service project or at a meeting,” VanHorn said. “We hope that men and women of all ages will join us and help make a difference for children in our community.”
