Hairspray Salon, owned by Shena Smith and Linda Reitz, recently opened in Jessamine County and offers customers a clean and inviting place where Smith said clients are treated like family.

“Linda and I worked together previously for several years and decided to venture out on our own because we were both renting anyways which is pretty much (being) self employed,” Smith said. “We decided to open a shop in Jessamine County because that’s where the majority of our customer base resides at. We have customers from all over, even different states, but most of our clientele is right here in Jessamine County.”

The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday and located at 306 Southview Drive in Nicholasville.

Smith said she was born in Eastern Kentucky but raised in Garrard County. Smith has 12 years of experience specializing in hair color and men’s haircuts.

Reitz was raised in Wilmore and graduated Jessamine High School in 1977. Reitz said she specializes in color, perms and haircuts.

“We both are master cosmetologist and have done hair for many years,” Smith said. “Opening our own salon was the best decision we ever made and we are currently looking for a stylist to join our team as a booth rental.”

Smith said the duo is looking to hire a stylist who has experience with hair and customer service. The potential hire must also have a team mentality attitude, be drug free, have a clientele and be willing to do booth rental through Hairspray Salon.

The salon also offers a variety of services which include women, men and children from all walks of life, Smith said. The shop offers haircuts, all-over color, highlights, balayage, perms, smoothing treatments and waxing services.

Smith said the price range depends upon the service requested and the amount of hair.

“Our prices are very reasonable for this area,” Smith said. “We don’t have set hours at the shop. There is always someone there at 10 a.m. We work until the last client is finished. (Some) nights I’m in there until past 9 p.m. We aim to please our customers and work with anyone’s schedule.”

Smith said, on a personal level, both shop owners appreciate their clients’ dedication to them as hair professionals and without them, the dream of opening Hairspray Salon would not have been possible.

“In the future, we are hoping to hire another stylist or two for booth rental to help aid our salon in growth,” Smith said. “(Our) customers’ look forward to a clean inviting salon where clients become family. We are very close to most all of our clients and know them (well).”
