A program between American Legion Post 63 and the Jessamine County community made the disposal of American flags more accessible, with drop-off boxes located at community centers in Wilmore and Nicholasville. Soon, a ceremony will be held to properly retire the worn flags.
Flag day is this weekend, on Saturday, June 14, and the local American Legion is taking the opportunity to host a flag-burning ceremony. Visitors to the ceremony, starting at 10 a.m. at 111 Hoover Drive in Jessamine County, will witness the retirement of American flags in a respectful ceremonial setting.
If you would like to dispose of your American flag, visit the drop-off boxes at the Jessamine County Public Library, the Jessamine County Courthouse, the Nicholasville Police Department, or the Wilmore Municipal Center. If your flag is still in decent, usable condition, donate it.
