For the fourth year, Shepherd’s House will send its members out to provide free car washes to raise money for children of parents with substance use disorder.

The car wash will take place on Saturday, June 7 at O’Reily’s on 871 N Main Street in Nicholasville. Although it is free, donations are encouraged and appreciated. Nicholasville Shepherd’s House Program Director Kate Holway said the money will be used to purchase “pick me up’s” for these kids.

In years past, the money has been used to purchase two children’s bicycles to give away at the Jessamine County Health Department’s Overdose 2 Action day that happens in late August.

The Shepherd’s House, based in Lexington, is an organization that provides programs for individuals in need of Substance Use Disorder recovery.

Nicholasville’s Shepherd’s House Recovery Community Center (RCC) is one of the newest Shepherd’s House programs. It provides peer support groups, recovery assistance, and community.

One of the ways Shepherd’s House provides assistance is through a community closet. Right now, the closet is full of winter clothes. Holway wants people to know that the Shepherd’s House Recovery Community Center on 104 North Main Street in Nicholasville is in dire need of summer clothing.

They are in need of shorts, t-shirts, socks, underwear, and sandals. They are also in need of good tennis shoes. “Please if you’re cleaning out, consider us when making donations. It would be greatly appreciated, and we will put it to great use,” read a post on the Shepherds House RCC Facebook. In conjunction with the Jessamine County Health Department, the Shepherd’s House RCC supplies clothing, blankets, toiletries, sleeping bags, and tents to help people in Jessamine County.

If you have items to donate, please ensure they are clean and without stains, rips, and heavy wear.

If you need people to come pick up items, call (859) 241-6035. If you would like to make a monetary donation, reach out to the Shepherd’s House Recovery Community Center of the Jessamine County Health Department at (859) 885-4149.
