Scot’s name was spelled with one “t” – his mother dropped the extra one because, as she told it, there were already enough “tt” Scot’s in the world. Born and raised in Conneaut, Ohio, he started working at a young age, holding numerous jobs including newspaper editor, merchant marine, Salvation Army Band member, diving and swimming instructor, and head resident at Asbury College. Scot served for many years with the City of Wilmore Police Department, as a patrolman, Sergeant, Assistant Chief, and Acting Chief in December 1994. He preferred the midnight shift for its quiet and the opportunity it provided his fellow officers rest while he patrolled streets alongside his beloved dog, Chris. One supervisor remarked that Scot was the most loyal and dedicated officer he had ever worked with. His keen observational skills and thoughtful approach earned him respect throughout his career. In the late 70s Scot found his home on the Kentucky River, and through a series of fortunate events and help from Asbury students who would stay there from time to time, he made the cedar-walled cabin his forever home. On December 31, 2024, his body was found peacefully in front of his fire-pit, facing the river and the cliff walls of the Palisades he cherished. He was 73 when he passed. For many, Scot was a friend, a storyteller, and a teacher—a refuge in a stormy world. He is survived by a devoted circle of friends who will miss him dearly. Scot’s memory will continue to inspire those who value hard work, loyalty, and genuine kindness. He remains a cherished figure whose legacy is woven into his community. Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Church of All Nations GMC: 1075 Ashgrove Rd, Nicholasville, KY, 40356 Scot Eccleston
