Joan Yvonne Stevens, 85, went to be with the Lord April 28, 2025 after a long life of giving to her community. She was born in Georgetown, Kentucky and a longtime resident of Nicholasville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Stevens and Alma Rutledge Stevens. Her brother, James T. Stevens and sister Mary E. Stevens also preceded her in death. Joan was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and retired from both Square D and Shriners Hospital. Throughout her life, her actions demonstrated her desire to improve and give back to her community. This is evident from an early age when she and her sister Mary developed a paper route, expanding it to over 600 customers wishing to share the news with Lexington. She was also instrumental in the formation and participating in the first women’s softball teams in Lexington: Jerry’s Angels and The Mavericks. Even into retirement they saw the need to provide healthy food to their community and formed the Wilmore Farmer’s Market with many of her special friends and fellow farmers. Joan is survived by a host of cousins, their families, and friends. Her stories and humor will be greatly missed. A graveside service for Joan was held on May 2, 2025 at Calvary Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. Please visit milwardfuneral.com to sign the tribute portion of her obituary page. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Shriners Hospital.
