It is once again springtime, ushering in bright colors throughout the county and fun family events geared towards children like the Wilmore Coaster Car Derby!

Wilmore’s annual Coaster Car Derby is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th on East Main Street. Registration and qualifying tests start at 11 a.m. this upcoming Saturday. Racing begins at 1 p.m.

Kid racers must be at least seven years old. There is no age limit, but a size limit exists since the cars are so small. The people’s registration table will take children’s heights to see if they’ll safely fit in the cars.

According to Wilmore, due to the extensive preparations for the event, East Main Street from the Post Office to the railroad tracks will be closed from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. There is no fee to participate or attend the event.

On the day of the event, registration forms will be available at the registration/information table starting at 11 a.m. However, registering does not guarantee participation as many coaster cars are sponsored by businesses who already have drivers in place. If vacancies become available, drivers will be pulled from the registrations.

Food trucks will be available, as well as the regular downtown Wilmore businesses. Bring a chair to have a seat and enjoy the fun.

A decision to cancel the race due to high probability of rain will be made late afternoon on Friday, April 25th. Cancellation notice will be posted to The City of Wilmore, Kentucky Facebook page.
