“Asbury’s impact extends far beyond our campus,” said Dr. Kevin J. Brown, President of Asbury University. “We are deeply invested in preparing students for meaningful careers, equipping servant leaders, and driving economic growth across Kentucky. This report affirms that our dedication to academic excellence and Christ-centered education is yielding tangible benefits for our students, communities, and the Commonwealth.”

In addition to its $84.7 million economic impact, measured from 2021-22 fiscal year data from AIKCU, Asbury is experiencing historic enrollment growth, welcoming 2,086 students this fall — the largest in its 134-year history. This record-breaking number, which includes traditional undergraduates, online learners, graduate students, and high school dual enrollees, underscores the increasing demand for Asbury’s rigorous academics and Christ-centered community. With students from 44 states and 39 countries, Asbury’s expanding reach further strengthens its role in developing future leaders in the professions, ministry and more.

Asbury’s Role in Kentucky’s Economic and Workforce Development

Asbury’s contribution is part of AIKCU’s broader findings, which highlight the $2.06 billion total economic impact of Kentucky’s 18 independent colleges and universities. The report defines economic impact as a combination of direct spending ($1.5 billion) and induced spending ($546 million) resulting from university operations, employee wages, student expenditures, and visitor activity.

Asbury’s commitment to academic excellence, spiritual formation, and leadership development equips graduates with the skills and mindset to thrive in their communities, driving innovation and positive change across Kentucky. More than 97% of Asbury graduates from Asbury’s traditional undergraduate program are employed or pursuing advanced degrees within six months of graduation, with many entering fields critical to Kentucky’s economic growth, including education, healthcare, business, media, and ministry.

“Asbury students don’t just earn degrees — they step into careers that transform their communities,” said Jennifer McChord, Vice President of Enrollment & Marketing. “Our commitment to integrating faith and learning prepares graduates who lead with integrity, purpose, and a heart for service.”

Building Partnerships & Strengthening Communities

Beyond economic impact, Asbury continues to strengthen partnerships and expand community engagement initiatives that serve the region. The university’s long-standing collaborations with nonprofits, K-12 schools, churches, and businesses provide students with valuable learning experiences and internships while directly benefiting the Commonwealth and helping keep top talent in Kentucky. The university is also a contributor to the cultural and economic vitality of Central Kentucky, hosting events, conferences, and athletic competitions.

“Asbury is more than an academic institution — we are a catalyst for economic and community growth,” said Mark Whitworth, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Communications. “This report validates what we see every day: Asbury students, faculty, and alumni making a profound impact on Kentucky and beyond.”

Under Whitworth’s leadership, Asbury expanded its athletics competitiveness, transitioning into NCAA Division III membership and joining the Collegiate Conference of the South, further enhancing the university’s regional and national presence.
