In the first Wilmore Newsletter of the year, writer of the newsletter and Wilmore City Council member David R Riel released the city’s recycling guide and trash schedules and a request for residents to send information about materials near their public water meter.
Lead and water
According to the Wilmore Newsletter, the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated that every water system nationwide identify areas in its potable water distribution system where lead might be introduced into somebody’s drinking water. This must include an “inventory” of every property’s service lines.
“There is absolutely no cause for alarm. Wilmore has been testing for lead in our water supply for 40 years, and we have never reached an “action level,” Riel wrote.
The Wilmore Water Department is asking homeowners to help the city determine what kind of material is between the public water meter and your home, business, etc. “Is it copper or plastic pipe? Could it be a galvanized pipe? We are just asking property owners to help us identify possible lead sources in waterlines. If a property owner has no idea, that’s also fine. We will continue to record that as “unknown” in our inventory,” Riel wrote.
The city has two years to gather this inventory data from homeowners.
Contact the city at 859-858-4411 and leave your name, contact phone number, and address; someone from the staff will get back to you. “The ladies at City Hall will have limited answers to your questions, but you will get a response in time,” Riel wrote and added, “If lots of people call, it could take weeks for us to get back to you and make arrangements to gather your information. Please be patient with us.
Recycling
Recycling pickup will be on the first and third Thursday in February, March, April, and August. In January, the next recycling pickup is on the third Thursday of January 23.
May, July, September, October, November, and December have some special recycling pickup dates to make up for no trash pickup holidays.
In May, recycling will be picked up on Thursday, May 1, Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 30. In July, the pickup will be the second and fourth Thursday of the month.
