Mary Esther Lockridge, (97) long time resident of Nicholasville, passed away at Morning Pointe Senior Living Center in Lexington on Monday, December 16. Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 21, at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville.
Visitation was from 11:00am until 1:30 pm with a funeral service starting at 1:30 pm.
Mary was the daughter of Russell and Mary Lou Brumfield of Nicholasville, born February 24, 1927. She was married to Billy Lockridge, former Mayor of Nicholasville, former football coach and Principal of Jessamine County High School. She moved to Richmond, Ky. when Billy accepted a job at Eastern Kentucky University. Mary was a long-time teacher in the Jessamine County School System and later at Madison Central High School. She and Billy moved back to Nicholasville upon their retirement from teaching.
Mary was a graduate of University High School in Lexington and later from the University of Kentucky where she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree.
After her retirement from teaching, she obtained her Real Estate License where she worked for Veal Real Estate company.
Mary was a gifted musician, playing the piano by ear nearly every day. She wrote and recorded her own music as well and loved to coax her friends and family to sing along or accompany her on jazz horns (kazoos). She could often be found at Morning Pointe playing the grand piano in the activity room and handing out her self-printed song books.
Survivors include three sons, B. Russell Lockridge of Chicago, (Vickie Lockridge) R. Gerald Lockridge of Pasadena, CA, and Thomas L. Lockridge, Nicholasville; (Jennie Lockridge) five grandchildren; Matthew Lockridge, William Lockridge, Hannah Lockridge Wright, Samuel Lockridge, and Madeleine Lockridge; Six great grandchildren, Henry, M.E., George, Willow, Chip, and Walker.
She was preceded in death by a son, George Bernard Lockridge, a grand-daughter Kathryn E. Lockridge, and brothers George and Bob Brumfield.
Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Samuel Lockridge, Madeleine Lockridge, Will Lockridge, Matt Lockridge, Billy Wright, and Henry Lockridge.
