The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) asks Jessamine County residents to participate in a survey for its US 68 Corridor Study in South West Jessamine and East Mercer Counties.
According to KYTC, the study’s objective is to identify and evaluate potential concepts to improve safety, truck mobility, and driver expectations (geometrics) on US 68 and to determine the need for an optimal location for the replacement of a Kentucky River Bridge.
The public survey will run through November 15, 2024, and can be reached at https://metroquestsurvey.com/ay5u5k.
The survey asks several questions, starting with: What are the top 5 transportation issues on US 68 in Jessamine and Mercer Counties? This question gives the site user multiple issues to stack in the order of severity of issues. Some of theissues listed include blind driveways, poor pavement conditions, lack of turn lanes, truck traffic, sharp curves, “other”,and more.
The next question provides a map with three markers to click and drop on areas the survey taker sees fit. Those markers are congestion trouble spot, safety trouble spot, and potential improvement area. Once placed, a pop-up window allows the user to type in the specific concern for their placed marker.
The third question asks the survey-taker: The Project Team performed an Environmental Overview to identify environmental and historical features in the study area. Are there any other concerns in the vicinity that KYTC should be aware of? This could include environmental features, historic buildings, cemeteries, water springs, unstable ground, etc. The site presents a map again, with three symbols available to drag and drop onto the map: historical, environmental, and other. Once again, users can type in a more detailed response regarding their concerns.
The final section of the survey asks the users for more information about themselves and if they have any other thoughts to share with District 7 of KYTC. The questions are: How often do you drive the study area portion of US 68? In what zip code do you reside? Do you use US 68 to get to work? If yes, in what zip code do you work? (Optional) Do you own or rent property in the study area? What type of vehicle do you drive on the corridor? Please select one or more of the following groups in which you consider yourself to be a member. (Optional) And, Do you have any other general suggestions for improvements along the study corridor?
