Fredrica “Ricky” M. C. Smith, wife of Richard L. Smith of Nicholasville Kentucky died on Sunday 2 June 2024. She was born to the late Arthur J. and Bettina W. H. Canfield in Bridgeport Connecticut on 27 April 1940. Ricky was lovingly revered as our family’s leader and as a pillar of our Nicholasville community. Ricky enjoyed gardening, the beauty of nature, painting, and rug hooking; she was a friend to all animals and loved to play golf and tennis at Lone Oak Country Club. Some of her favorite places to visit were Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and Keeenland. In the 1970s she volunteered to teach Head Start preschool for the Presbyterian Church. Her volunteer work at Withers Memorial Library led to her Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Kentucky and her retirement as the Reference Librarian of the Jessamine CO. Public Library in 2005. Her heart possessed our true understanding of kindness. Ricky was a founding member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She was awarded the Governor’s Citation for outstanding services to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and its citizens. She is survived by her husband Richard, their sons Andrew, with his wife Lin, and David, as well as their three grandchildren Edward and Samuel, and Justin, respectively. Services were held at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 3320 Lexington Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky 40356, on Wednesday 12 June at 2 PM.
