On Tuesday, May 14, the Jessamine County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (primarily known as the Trabue Chapter) welcomed 12 new members. 

 

The new members include Karen Stanfield, Sally McGeehan, Katherine Gates Botts, Pat Hunt, Jamie Dunn, Janell Shaner, Ashley Hawkins, Sherel Ingram, Madelyn Quillen, Sophia Botts, and Abigail Carpenter. Third District Director, Carla Ray, Chapter Regent, Kellye Cole, and Chapter Registrar, Susan Buggin were all in attendance to welcome the new members. 

 

According to member Terrye Perkins, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are active in the local community, especially with veterans. 

 

“We participate in Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day activities at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  We also work with local schools to educate young people regarding our country’s early history,” she said.

 

According to DAR.org, anyone interested in joining must be a woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
