Shades of green are popping up all over Jessamine County. With the foray into spring, Wilmore is ready to celebrate with several events that Jessamine Countians of all ages can enjoy.
Saturday, May 4, is a big day for Wilmore. It’s Derby Day in Kentucky, and Wilmore is launching its annual Farmers Market to run from May 4 to the last Saturday of October. The market will be located in the parking lot adjacent to the rail tracks on East Main Street in Wilmore and will feature homegrown produce by local growers. According to Diane Vetters, a member on the Wilmore Farmer’s Market board, the market will be selling green onions, carrots and radishes, vegetable and flower plants, cut flowers, local beef and chicken, eggs, honey, baked goods, soaps, strawberries, handcrafted items.
That Saturday also marks the start for the weekly flower market and the opening of the Downtown Wilmore Railside museum, as well. The museum is a 1950s-era exhibit that has an extensive collection of local artifacts, photos, and more. Visitors can learn about the early settlers who made their homes in the Wilmore-High Bridge area in the late 1700s and about the development of the railroad, which allowed for more extensive travel and commerce possible for everyone. This museum will be open Saturdays only from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. through October.
Those interested in being a vendor at the market must provide their tent, table, and chair. If interested, contact Market board member Tim Vetters at 859-221-9024 or Diane Vetters at 859-421-3239.
