A Convington, Kentucky man was arrested in Nicholasville after a Nicholasville Police Department (NPD) Officer noticed erratic driving and found heroin among other law violations after a search.
Steven Mersfelder was arrested at 2:39 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 with several charges, including careless driving, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance/registration, no operator moped license, trafficking in controlled substance 1st-offense, promoting contraband 1st-degree, and possession of firearm by convicted felon.
According to the police report sent by the NPD, an officer witnessed Mersfelder driving at a high speed, and had made an abrupt left turn once the officer was positioned behind the vehicle in his police car.
The registration plate came back requesting a “verification of proof of insurance”.
The officer initiated the traffic stop and Mersfelder informed the officer that he had just purchased the vehicle a week ago, so he had not yet transferred the vehicle’s ownership. He also openly stated he did not have insurance.
The driver’s license was discovered to be the cousin of Mersfelder. He was taken to the Jessamine County Detention Center.
