One month ago, a man’s body was found in a wooded area near the Kentucky River Palisades at High Bridge near Dix Drive and Lock 7. The man has now been identified.
According to the Jessamine County Coroner’s Office, the man was identified as 52-year-old John Breathitt “Brett” Kelley from Bardwell, Kentucky.
Criminal Investigation Detective Matt Lytle said the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office started working to identify the man soon after the body was found on Nov. 16.
Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes said this process was a multiagency effort between it, the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office.
“The Jessamine County Coroner’s Office is grateful for the assistance and expertise from each of these agencies,” reads a post on the coroner’s office Facebook oage.
Fingerprint analysis and rapid DNA tests helped the agencies confirm the identity of Kelley, bringing answers to his family.
The Facebook post by the Coroner’s Office also extended condolences to the family of the deceased: “The Jessamine County Coroner’s Office would like to extend our sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Mr. Kelley’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
