Margaret “Stick” VanHuss (Clubb) Caywood was born July 13, 1930 to the late Willie Mae (VanHuss) Clubb Carter and Charles Clubb. She was deeply loved by her step-father Howard Lowry Carter. She grew up in Jessamine County, Kentucky and graduated from Nicholasville High School in 1948. She attended college at Bethel Women’s College in Hopkinsville, KY from 1948-1950. She met the love of her life, Sanford “Bud” Caywood. They were married on June 28 in 1952. They had a wonderful life together until his passing on April 9, 1991. Her greatest joys in life were her two daughters. Margaret worked for the Kentucky State Department of Mines and Minerals. Throughout her long career, she was a force to be reckoned with. She retired after 38 years. Margaret loved traveling in her retirement years. Her experiences and adventures were something she reminisced about often. She often traveled with her beloved friend Martha Hall. Margaret had two granddaughters, Eden Crothers (Justus and Michaela David-Justus. They would spend their summers with their Granny. Time was spent staying up too late, trips to Fazolis or O’Charley’s and the Glitz in Nonesuch, KY. One of their favorite summers included sewing stuffed turtles. Within the past year, Margaret has spent time visiting and video chatting with her new great-granddaughter, Adelia Crothers. “Roses on my shoulders, slippers on my feet; I’m my mother’s baby, don’t you think I’m sweet?” was the rhyme Margaret would recite to her during every call. Margaret was also beloved by many friends over the years. The Pfeiffers had a special place in her heart and she adored their children and grandchildren. Cora Wyche was her caretaker and beloved friend the past few years. It was Cora’s love and care that allowed her to keep her independence at home, which was something Margaret always wanted. On September 8, 2023 Margaret found her way back to her loving husband and parents. She passed peacefully at home with her loved ones surrounding her. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Caywood Justus (Michael Justus) and Melissa Caywood McGuire, grand-daughters Eden Crothers (Russell Crothers), Michaela David-Justus (Paul David-Justus), great-granddaughter Adelia Crothers, nieces LaJuana (Jerry) Bochtler and Martha Sue Bellamy, and nephews Tom Caywood and Thomas L. (Martha) Caywood. Visitation and memorial services will be held September 23 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Services will be led by Geno Washington with speaker Leonard Fitch sharing memories of Margaret. Honorary Pallbearers: Cora Wyche, Martha Hall, Janet Pfeiffer and Todd Pfeiffer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 1733 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40504 and Fairview Christian Church, 6697 Richmond Road, Paint Lick, KY 40461. This obituary was lovingly submitted by the Caywood Family. Hager & Cundiff values nothing more than the trust given to us to care for Margaret and her family.
