Camp Nelson announces spring hours, events

History lovers, mark your calendars.

Camp Nelson National Monument has announced its spring operating hours and several special events, according to a news release.

The park’s visitor center and museum will now be open five days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The grounds open at sunrise and close at sunset.

The park store opened in January, and an official grand opening is set for Friday, April 28, from 10-11 a.m. The event will feature remarks from National Park Service staff, and authors whose works are sold in the store will be recognized.

On Saturday, April 29, the park will mark the 160th anniversary of Camp Nelson’s establishment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will be filled with site visits, guided tours, demonstrations and activities especially suited for children.
