Sixteen-year-old Zach Nielson’s love for Christmas lights didn’t start with fire station 20’s light show, but it inspired him to create his own.
Shortly after speaking with one of the firefighters, Nielson asked his mother for a non-professional Disney light controller with six channels. This device only allowed for six individual light strips. Now, for the Fifth Annual Wild Lights KY show, Nielson has 112 channels to light up his 112 Bernie Trail home.
For last year’s show, Nielson built two palm trees to represent a beach theme. This year’s theme is “LIGHTWAVE.”
“Our show centers around Christ and sharing the gospel, so we’re talking about how Jesus is the light of the world, and lighting up the world with color is what we like to do,” Neilson said. The event will feature a 25-foot electric guitar that will strum to the beat of songs on the show’s playlist.
The first day to see Nielson’s show is Saturday, November 26. After that, the show will be available for viewing every night from 5:30-11 p.m. Roosters Whistle Coffee truck will be at the show’s premiere from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
On Friday, December 2, the show will be accompanied by Big Poppy’s food truck which serves nachos. On Friday, December 9, The Piggin’ Out food truck will serve Philly cheesesteaks and burgers. The food trucks will donate 10 percent of all proceeds to the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition.
Wild Lights Ky is free of charge, but attendees can donate to the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition through cash or a check in the box near the sidewalk or using Venmo or Paypal. Above the donation box is a Letter to Santa box where children can write a letter to Santa and receive a response in return. No postage is required.
Attend the drive-by Light show by visiting 112 Bernie Trail on Saturday, November 26, at 5:30 p.m. For more information or to reach out, visit Neilson’s website: www.wildlightsky.wixsite.com/wildlightsky.
