Lynn Graydon Cooper, dearly loved husband, father of three, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2022, at age 78 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Robert and Anita L Cooper, his sister and brother-in-law, Gwytha and Jim Blaylock and two precious sons, David Christian and Matthew Graydon Cooper. Continuing in this life to love and cherish him are his wife of 56 years, Rosie Cooper, daughter Julie Holifield and grandsons Wes Holifield and Siah (Olivia) Holifeld with their newly born son, Sutton Tate. Born in Hazard, KY, Lynn lived most of his early years in Ypsilanti, MI. He obtained his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees from The University of Michigan; and his Doctor of Education degree from The University of Kentucky. He taught in Michigan public schools for 19 years developing an outstanding band program and conducting a fine adult concert ensemble. During his tenure at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY, he served as Director for the Concert and Jazz Bands, Music Ed Prof, and from 2001 until retiring in 2007, as Department Chair. Dr Cooper was an active adjudicator, clinician, guest conductor, and author. He served on the Board of Directors of the KY Music Educators Assoc. for 16 years, including a two year term as president, receiving many awards throughout his career. In recent years he had served on the Wilmore City Council and founded, then led for 25 years the Wilmore Lawnmower Brigade, a delightful and entertaining feature of the annual July 4 Parade. Lynn was an active member of the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 22, at the Wilmore Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Daryl Diddle officiating. Burial will follow at Wilmore Cemetery, with Siah Holifield, Wes Holifield, Chris Grigsby, Bill Grigsby, Dennis Adams, and Glen Flanigan serving as bearers. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until the time of service, Saturday, at the church. Betts & West is honored to serve the Cooper family in their time of need.
