Fiscal court adopts Constitution Day proclamation

September 17th, 2022, marks the two hundred and thirty-fifth anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the constitutional convention.

On August 16th, 2022, a Proclamation was signed by Jessamine County Judge-Executive David West, and all six Jessamine County Magistrates. The proclamation officially recognizes and commemorates the constitution and its memorable anniversary, and coincides with the guaranteed issuing of a proclamation each year by the president of the United States of America. Therefore, September 17th through 23rd will be recognized as Constitution Week.

In Jessamine County, we ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties remembering that lost rights may never be regained.

On Saturday, September 17th, 2022, the Daughters of the American Revolution will kick off Constitution Week with their Bells Across America event. In Jessamine County, individuals are welcome to come to the Courthouse at 4:00 PM to ring bells while Judge West rings the courthouse bell for one minute, symbolizing the church bells of Philadelphia that rang out when the U.S. Constitution was first signed on September 17th, 1787.
