The fifth section at LG&E’s and Kentucky Utilities Solar Share share facility in Shelby County will become operational later this month.

According to information released by the company, the facility is presently home to 6,000 solar panels that produce two megawatts of power.

LG&E and KU’s primary contract partner to construct the fifth section of the Solar Share facility is Solar Alliance Energy Inc. Eight 500-kilowatt Solar Share sections are planned for the facility, for a total of 4 megawatts. The other three sections planned for the site will be built once subscription levels necessitate it.

Since Solar Share launched in 2019, it has been part of a subscription-based program available to LG&E and KU’s residential, business, and industrial customers. Participating customers pay a monthly fee that the company says is an affordable alternative to the long-term expenses of a private solar panel system.

The company currently has over 2,000 customers participating in the program and offers plenty of resources for anyone considering signing up. The Renewable Choice Calculator found at www.lge-ku.com/renewables/calculator is an online tool to help customers figure out how much they might save per month.
