The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. on Friday handing the power to legislate abortion services over to the states.
Kentucky’s “trigger law” on abortion took immediate effect on Friday. The legislation, which was passed in 2019 outlaws abortion procedures and medications throughout the commonwealth.
However, there are still women’s health services available in Jessamine County and in Kentucky that can assist women in need of family planning or pregnancy prevention services.
While the Jessamine County Health Department has not offered family planning services since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there are local non-profit doctor’s offices, such as Health Point, that offer family planning services, including birth control, preventive care, prenatal and postnatal care, detection tests for sexually transmitted diseases as well as pap test screenings. The website listing all services offered by Health Point is available at www.healthpointfc.org. The clinic is located at 101 Crab Orchard Dr.
Axia Women’s Health has locations around the area, and offers women’s health services, including birth control, pregnancy care, STD testing, midwifery, fertility services, genetic screening, and many other options. Axia Women’s Health is independent, and has locations in many different states. The website listing services and locations offered by Axia Women’s Health is available at https://axiawh.com.
