Jessamine County has a new sheriff.
Judge Executive David West announced his appointment of Lt. Anthony Purcell of the Jessamine County Sheriff’s office to assume the duties of sheriff in a written statement released Monday.
“I have selected Lt. Anthony Purcell to assume the duties of Sheriff in Jessamine County. Lt. Purcell has exemplified competency and the highest level of professionalism in the performance
of his duties”, West wrote in the news release. “I am confident that the excellent officers and staff of the Jessamine County Sheriff’s office, as well as the citizens of Jessamine County, will be

Purcell will serve the remainder of the late Kevin Corman’s term of office, which expires in Jan. 2023.
Corman was discovered dead at his Nicholasville residence Sunday afternoon. The investigation into Corman’s death by the Kentucky State Police is still ongoing.
Judge West also wrote that the appointment is supported by Sheriff-elect Kevin Grimes
“This appointment has the full faith and support of incoming Sheriff Kevin Grimes as a positive step during a tragic time for our county.”
