Thompson, 47, had been in the hospital battling COVID-19.
East Jessamine High School posted this tribute to Thompson on Facebook:
To our Jaguar Family, Our hearts are broken as we share the news that we have lost our beloved Coach Erinn Thompson. He fought every inning but lost the battle.
We are deeply saddened by this loss and are keeping Kristy, Andrew, Ben, Cam and Niko close in our thoughts and prayers. His impact extends far beyond the baseball fields or golf course.
The lives he touched are forever changed because of the perseverance and determination he instilled among our students and community… You fought the good fight, Coach. We love you and will forever miss you.
According to East Jessamine Jaguars Football Facebook page, “Jag football family.. Please keep the Thompson family in your prayers. Our baseball Coach Erinn Thompson passed away last night after a hard fought battle. Lord, we ask that you wrap your arms around his family, friends and players and comfort them.”
Last week, the community came together to pray for the coach’s recovery at a vigil on Dec. 23 at the East Jessamine baseball field. Additionally, players and faculty from West Jessamine were in attendance supporting their East Jessamine rivals.
