Nicholasville man reapointed to Ag Finance Corporation

FRANKFORT – Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles has reappointed Kenneth Burdine, of Nicholasville, to the Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation. Burdine is an agricultural economist at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Burdine shall represent agricultural economists and will serve for a term expiring June 26, 2025.

Manna Meals return

Manna Meals has resumed in-person dining meals on Saturdays in Nicholasville. During Covid, the group limited meals to take-out. 

The meal is served every Saturday in the Nicholasville United Methodist Church community center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There are no questions asked of those who show up to eat, no forms to fill out and no identification required. Anyone who shows up can eat and take home a meal. 

Manna Meals is also looking for volunteers to help with this program. Volunteers can come once,or commit to a Saturday every month. Donations are also accepted. For further information call (859) 885-4481. 

Local student organizes postcard campaign

West Jessamine High School student and 2020 Rogers Scholar Hogan Price organized a postcard campaign for his community service project. Price distributed postcards with encouraging messages to 400 Jessamine County virtual students during the COVID 19 pandemic. All Rogers Scholars graduates are required to complete a community service project within one year after graduating from the program. Please share Hogan’s story with your readers.

Live music returning to Wilmore

Live music returns to the Wilmore Downtown Green on July 23 and 24. On Friday, Gospel on the Green will have the local perennial favorite “Moron Brothers” performing in the Pavilion, on the Green. Their humor, singing and picking will keep attendees entertained. 

On Saturday, “West Wind Drive” will take the Stonebridge stage. West Wind Drive (formerly known as Frontier) is a harmony-driven four-piece electric rock band from London, Ky. Concerts start at 7 p.m. and chairs are available or bring your ownn, and food vendors will be on site.  These concerts are free, but please bring a food donation for either the Wilmore-High Bridge Community Service Center or the County Animal Shelter. 

KYTC crews removing illegelly placed items

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews can remove illegally placed items along state maintained right of way areas. Political candidates, residents, business operators and property owners along US and KY routes are reminded that no signage is allowed on right of way — other than official highway signs and items approved through a permit process. Any campaign signs must be placed beyond right of way limits. Right of way fence is included with this restriction. For roads with a right of way fence, no signs may be attached. Trash cleanup cycles are scheduled periodically. Items placed on right of way create significant delays for mowing crews and are potential hazards for mowing operators and passing motorists.

Removed items are taken to each county’s KYTC maintenance facility and held for 30 days. Unclaimed materials are trashed or recycled. If you have questions related to legal/illegal sign placement, please contact KYTC District 7 in Lexington at 859.246.2355.

Blood drive at Jessamine County Health Department

The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is encouraging blood donors to give blood during the summer months, which is typically a difficult time of the year to keep blood on the shelves. 

KBC’s bloodmobile will be at the Jessamine County Health Department from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27.

To make this summer special after an incredibly difficult year, KBC is going to give away two cars to two lucky donors. Dnonors who give from July 5 through September 11 will be entered to win a 2021 AWD Toyota Camry.

Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, found at kybloodcenter.org.
