Wilmore Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred in the Woodspointe subdivision around 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
According to Wilmore Police Chief Bill Craig, the tenant of the rental home, Jessica Robertson, told officers a silver Dodge pickup truck with two occupants was parked in front of her residence and drove off. She then went to her mailbox, and the truck came back. The shooter, a black male with dreadlocks, fired about five shots into the house.
She said she didn’t recognize the subject and didn’t know whether he was shooting at her or the house. Neither she nor anyone else was hit or hurt.
“At this time, we have no motive,” Craig said soon after the incident occurred.
However, by Tuesday morning, Detective Sgt. Melanie Welch said she had more evidence.
“This was a targeted victim,” she said.
Welch said she doesn’t think the incident had anything to do with narcotics, but it could possibly involve “other criminal activity.”
The detective said officers have recovered evidence that they have sent to the Kentucky State Police lab and are pursuing leads from persons who were in the area.
The night the incident occurred, officers from other law enforcement agencies were on the scene Sunday to offer assistance.
Welch said there were at least two assailants involved, but only one weapon apparently was used. At this time, police do not have a suspect.
The Wilmore Police Department is asking for information that might help solve the crime and lead to arrests and conviction. Anyone with information may call Welch at (859) 858-8955 or leave a message for her at that number.
