And the winners are …
The Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce’s Light Up Jessamine County Christmas decorating contest winners have been announced.
Mitchell Pearson, the community’s tourism director, read the results in a video on the chamber’s Facebook page Friday.
“We have to congratulate everyone because they were truly delightful and so impressive,” Pearson said. “It took a lot of hard work to put them up and a lot of creativity that went with it.”
Light Up Jessamine County was a St. Nich Festival event the chamber came up with as an alternative to the annual Christmas parade, which was canceled because of the risk of spreading the coronavirus.
Because they couldn’t have the parade this year, Chamber Executive Director Ronda May said, they wanted to “engage our community” in a way that “gets people out to see the Christmas lights and still enjoy the spirit of Christmas.”
The categories ranged from White Christmas, which was old-fashioned and traditional, to Griswold Christmas, which was anything goes — including strobes, inflatables and colored lights. That was the one that drew the most entries and was therefore hardest to judge, Pearson said.
Metronet, a new internet company in town, sponsored the event.
One category was yet to be announced, and that was the Facebook Fans contest, which let viewers vote on which one they liked.
The winner of that contest and photos of all the other first and second-place winners can be seen at jessaminechamber.org or on the Jessamine County Chamber Facebook page.
