Fall haul offers county free disposal of household hazardous waste

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, Jessamine County Fiscal Court will offer the 2020 Jessamine County Fall Haul, a free household hazardous waste disposal event, at the Jessamine County Convenience Center, 123 Hendren Way, Nicholasville.
The one-day event offers an alternative to throwing hazardous materials in the trash or, even worse, pouring them onto the ground and thereby increasing the risk of contaminating waterways.
Household hazardous waste items accepted during the event include:
— Drain Cleaners
— Solvents
— Creosote
— Oven cleaners
— Sealants
— Batteries
— Metal Polish
— Antifreeze
— Moth balls
— Art and craft supplies
— Engine and radiator flushes
— Bleach ammonia
— Photo chemicals
— Transmission fluid
— Cesspool cleaners
— Floor cleaners
— Old chemistry sets
— Mercury thermometers
— Dry cleaning fluids
— Pesticides
— Compact fluorescent
— Radiator cleaners
— Herbicides
— Mercury thermostats
— Rust preventatives
— Insect sprays
— Fluorescent tubes
— Wood preservatives
— Brake fluid
— Jars of liquid mercury
— Wood strippers
— Rodent killers
— Electronic waste
— Oil-based paint
— Pool chemicals
— Paint thinner
— Muriatic acid
“No trash or debris will be accepted at the Convenience Center on Oct. 10,” Environmental Services Director Richie Horn said. “We will only accept household hazardous waste materials during the Fall Haul event.”
